Find A Tradie ("we", "us", "our") operates the website findatradie.co and related services. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

When you submit a job request, we collect:

• Your name, mobile number, and email address
• Your suburb and postcode
• A description of the job you need done
• Any photos you choose to upload

We only collect what's needed to match you with the right tradies and send you a confirmation.

Information collected automatically

When you visit our website, we collect anonymous usage data to improve the service:

• Pages visited and time spent on each section
• Buttons clicked and form fields interacted with
• Scroll depth and drop-off points
• Device type, screen size, browser, and operating system
• IP address (used for analytics filtering only, not linked to your identity)
• Referring website (how you found us)

We do not use cookies. We use sessionStorage (which is cleared when you close your browser tab) to maintain a session identifier during your visit. This identifier is random, anonymous, and cannot be used to identify you personally.

2. How we use your information

• To match you with tradies — your job description and location are used to find qualified, licensed tradies in your area.
• To send you a confirmation email — we email your job summary and reference number to the email address you provide.
• To send your job to tradies — when dispatch is active, matched tradies receive your job details so they can quote. Your contact details are shared only with tradies matched to your job.
• To improve the service — anonymous analytics data helps us understand how people use the site so we can make it better.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your information with third parties except as described below.

3. Third-party services

We use the following services to operate Find A Tradie:

• Resend — to send you confirmation emails. Your email address is shared with Resend for delivery. Resend's privacy policy.
• Vercel — hosts our website. Vercel may collect standard web server logs (IP address, request URL, user agent). Vercel's privacy policy.
• Railway — hosts our backend API and database. Railway's privacy policy.
• Cloudflare — provides our DNS. Cloudflare's privacy policy.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party tracking or advertising platform. All analytics are collected by our own system and stored in our own database.

4. Data retention

• Job data — retained for up to 12 months after the job is completed or cancelled, then deleted.
• Analytics data — anonymous usage data is retained for up to 90 days, then deleted.
• Email addresses — retained only as long as needed to process your job. We do not add you to any mailing list.

5. Your rights

Under Australian privacy law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct any inaccurate or outdated information
• Request deletion of your personal information
• Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe your privacy has been breached

6. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including:

• Passwords are hashed with Argon2id (industry-leading standard)
• All data is transmitted over HTTPS (encrypted in transit)
• Database access is restricted and encrypted at rest
• Admin access requires authentication and supports multi-factor authentication (TOTP)

7. Children

Find A Tradie is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
